The Mission of Sana Vita Studio

Sana Vita means "Healthy Life" in Latin.

Sana Vita Studio's mission is to provide an inviting and energizing environment for our clients to receive safe and effective conditioning, which includes physical, emotional and spiritual fitness. We encourage a wellness lifestyle which means living in a way that nurtures one's own potential for health and well-being. Our studio is located in the West Loop area in downtown Chicago and our doors have been open since June 2004.

The Sana Vita Studio Difference

Private sessions, group equipment classes, smaller sized classes and personal attention which focuses on your individual body and unique movement patterns, make all the difference at Sana Vita Studio. We offer safe and effective body conditioning with emphasis on precise anatomical alignment, blended with movement, to create physical harmony and balance for people of all ages and physical condition.

The bodywork done at Sana Vita Studio works on changing your internal shape by lengthening the fascia (connective tissue) that winds through the body supporting and joining all of our tissue from head to toe. Understanding the link between the connective tissue and muscle in healthy movement and posture is of vital importance. Movement patterns based on compensation create strain in the body. Any biomechanical deviation at one place in the body will cause the movement mechanics of the entire body to change, leading to muscle imbalances, pain and dysfunction. We seek to address patterns of tension and strain. It is not enough to just strengthen and stretch muscles. Releasing fascia and incorporating proper movement patterns is essential. Correct exercise mechanics improves results and safety. Our hands-on approach helps increase the possibilities of movement and creates a balanced muscular system.

At Sana Vita Studio, each client receives a personalized introduction so we ensure that individual goals are met. We collect comprehensive information about each client and are continually assessing your progress with each session. All Sana Vita Studio instructors and practitioners approach fitness in a way that includes the physical, emotional and spiritual self, employing a range of methods uniquely tailored to the individual.

Sana Vita Studio sets itself apart from other fitness centers by blending modern body sculpting such as Pilates, Yoga, Pilates Boot Camp and Yamuna Body Rolling with an important new insight into the processes involved in muscle learning.

The Anatomy Trains theory relies on the concept of synergy ("the whole is greater than the sum of the parts") which looks at the body as a series of interrelated muscular chains, and not just a system of individual muscles. As instructors, we seek out the pattern which contributes to the origin of pain in a distressed client, this is an important basis from which to work.

Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is a system designed to evaluate and treat muscular imbalances. MAT has taken basic components of physiology and biomechanics and transferred them into a systematic approach for evaluating and treating the biomechanical relationships relating to chronic pain or injury.

The Anatomy Trains and Muscle Activation Techniques concepts are beneficial assessment tools. They both offer an integrative approach to looking at relationships in the body - and looking at the body as a wh
ole.

Wow..have been going to this studio for about 4 months. Had alot of back pain when I started and it is completely gone. I can now do the Pilates Boot Camp...this is honestly one of the best workouts I have ever had and I have tried everything. It is always great to see the owner's (Marilyn) interaction with the staff members that are there waiting for their classes to start, and clients leaving classes that ended. It seems like everyone knows each other and there is a good rapport/friendliness. Going to Sana Vita Studio was the best decision I've made in a long time. If you are suffering with chronic pain and feel like you've tried everything, you owe it to yourself to check out Marilyn's studio. I went in skeptical and came out feeling fantastic.

Marilyn Glielmi is the best thing that ever happened to Pilates and yoga in Chicago. I love working out at Sana Vita. Marilyn is extremely knowledgeable and is a superb teacher, and the other instructors are top-notch. The space is always sparkling clean and the mood is always perfect--great music, great lighting--the best place imaginable to enhance your mind and body.

Sana Vita is an amazing place to learn about pilates.  It can be intimidating to use all the equipment the first few times, but Marilyn is very helpful to the uninitiated!  As you become more adept, she will help you progress to more difficult workouts.  She is very concerned about form and safety.  I would (and have) recommended Sana Vita to the novice and the advanced student.  Her "boot camp" is challenging and fun.  My teenage daughter attends with me and Marilyn is very aware of her and gives her extra attention when needed.  The space is always clean and Marilyn's staff is top notch.  A big thumbs up from me.

I have been very pleased with my Pilates sessions at Sana Vita. I explained to Marilyn how my knee gets stressed, and at times also gives me pain when I squat. She designed a very effective exercise routine that appropriately progressed me through movements and positions in which I needed to get stronger in order for the pain to abate. After a session, I always feel more balanced and I also feel as if my movements have been corrected. I was especially impressed with how Marilyn was attuned to small details when I performed the exercises. I am a personal trainer and a muscle activation technique specialists, and I know how small mechanical details can have a significant impact on results gained from exercise. For example, she noticed how my foot would externally rotate or pronate as I was performing squats. She suggested some exercises that worked the muscles of my foot. After doing these exercises my squats were much more stable.

I began attending Sana Vita Studio in the last 30 days and am addicted to the mat and reformer classes…really to the instructors as they are fabulously trained and make my new Pilates work-out extraordinary. I have always been a gym fanatic, running 25-35 miles a week and doing weights three/four times a week; Pilates has allowed me to limited the harshness of running and has strengthen my entire body in ways in which all the gym time (running and weightlifting could never have done). The instructors, Marilyn and Amy, are so prepared and deliver specialized instruction to all their clients (looking at skills sets, weaknesses and strengths at an individual level) the classes feel like individual instruction because they are managed so well and by individuals who care (classes hold from 3-6 people so you can see that this team won’t overload the classes and do really make sure form and concepts are understood). I highly recommend San Vita Studio for the novices or experts in Pilates…..if I did not have a day job I would be at the studio three times a day as it is the best total body workout and will change your body in a matter of sessions!

My back doesn't hurt anymore. Thanks Sana Vita!

I am really not well adjusted enough to have taken pilates on my own initiative, but after my wife dragged me to Sana Vita two years ago, I started going on a regular basis and I am a huge fan. Once I had 35 in the rear view mirror various body parts had decided not to cooperate with my master plan (die. playing basketball, walking, working out, sitting in a chair comfortably, etc.). After only a couple of months of pilates under Master Guru Marilyn at Sana Vita, and her team, I no longer have any problems with my back or hip. Sana Vita is very clean, professionally managed, and the people are great.

Best Studio in the City, best instructors and spotless!

For me, Pilates is the only thing that got my body to where I wanted it to be. I didn't know anything about it, so I tried Sana Vita studio. Prior to having a baby, I'd never even worked out a day in my life. After the baby, something had to be done. Six months after starting Pilates with the amazing instructors at Sana Vita, I had more confidence in a bathing suit than I'd ever had before. The instructors are attentive and care about their clients. They take the time to make sure you are in the correct position, and regardless of how many people are in a class (max 6), you feel like you are the only one. This is the best studio in the city...and it's the cleanest!! I highly recommend making a visit if you dread getting into a suit this summer.

High quality training, customized workout programs, great space.

I have tried many different instructors to help me with my back pain and it seemed to get worse with every new experience. I began working with pilates & yoga instructor Marilyn, at Sana Vita and I was amazed at my improvement. I am not the most coordinated person and Marilyn and the other instructors have shown me so much patience.
