Yoga
means union with the higher self. The Sanskrit word yoga is
derived from the root yuj, which means to yoke. The yoga student
seeks to yoke his or her individual soul with higher
consciousness. The aim of yoga is to change our minds; the
practice will challenge you to concentrate more clearly and to
expand concentration to include awareness of breath and a
complete state of being. Physically yoga fosters strength,
stamina, good posture and alignment, and increased balance and
flexibility. Yoga will help you experience freedom from
preconceptions about yourself allowing for the possibilities of
growth, acceptance and change.
Anusara inspired yoga classes and private lessons are lighthearted, positive and fun. They are not easy, however, as they include vinyasa flow and a lot of alignment work. The emphasis on props, however, makes them accessible to students of differing abilities. Anusara appeals to those who want to work both their physical and spiritual well-being.
